How do you oil paint a metallic object?

I am in an oil painting class and need help, I need a sort of simple formula for painting something that has a highly reflective surface. I understand that it is mainly composed of the reflections of other objects in the area but I am having problems and my instructor seems to know less than what I do.How do you oil paint a metallic object?
I studied with Don Eddy in the seventies. He is a master painter of reflections.

Mimic him and you'll see.

Take a look at these amazing works:

Learning to paint reflective surfaces is not a matter of learning to paint. It is a matter of learning to see.

Polished surfaces always ';see'; something. In a reflection you see whatever it ';sees.';

Study reflections to learn to see.

Better yet study photos from magazines of reflective surfaces.

Even better, mimic Don Eddy.

Opening some of the paintings on his web site gives great lessons on formulas for painting reflections. For example:

Good luck. Painting reflective surfaces, or transparent objects can be tricky, but correctly done, the visual results are spectacular.

By the way, You'll find Photoshop Chrome filter effects dissapointing compared to painters of the real thing.How do you oil paint a metallic object?
You are refering to an art called 'tole painting' and this link will suggest many books on the subject.
