In Spray painting is black a good primer for a metallic color over it?

I am painting a plastic helmet a gold color with black accents. The Fusion products made for painting on plastic and bonding dont carry any metallic colors. So I am going to paint/prime the whole thing with a Fusion (plastic-friendly) black and then go over it with the metallic that isnt so friendly to plastics.

Will the color be overly muted because of the black?

Does that only become a factor if I dont do many coats of the gold?

And last question, will the metallic color bond to the spray paint layer regardless of the plastic underneath?

Thanks. In Spray painting is black a good primer for a metallic color over it?
Excellent.

Black it a very nice base for metallic paints. Whites and grey will dull your gold. A red base coat would be perfect.

The whole idea behind primer is so the paint and the surface are separated. If you apply the primer correctly there will be no contact between the two.

(most) Metallic paint isn't very scratch resistant (enough) so you nead a clear coat that will provide that. It will also enhance the shine of your metallic paint. In Spray painting is black a good primer for a metallic color over it?
I would say that black is not a good color for a substrate. It will mute the topcoat. alot of it depends on the desired goal. spray your black basecoat then switch to a grey primer over that. Lay down your base color (gold or silver metallic) then your color over that. Finish off with a clear coat.

Best to talk to someone who knows best thought.. try finding a PPG or Sherwin Williams Automotive finishes place around you and talk to them they are very knowlegeable.
Use a battleship grey for the primer. It is a hue that covers everything and anything can cover it.

It is a perfect colour for a primer.

Painting Plastic to a Metallic - Glossy Finish?

Hi, I need your advice on a project I will work on very soon. It involves the element in the title. More specifically, I want to paint the object below with colors of metallic silver, gold, and etc, then apply a clear glossy finish.

----(http://www.thinkgeek.com/geektoys/games/9766/)----

I'm sure you'll agree that that will look much better and elegant than the original. Well the problem is, I'm not sure how to approach this. I was thinking of using Krylon Fusion paint after peeling off the colored stickers, then apply gloss. But should I sand? Apply a primer? And also, some tips on my project? Thanks!!

P.S. I'm not that much of a geek...really. I just love challenges. I want the model to look like an attractive paperweight if I can't solve it. (most likely.) :)Painting Plastic to a Metallic - Glossy Finish?
I have this cube, (and it is a hard one to solve once you have it twisted real well, but if you just give it a few twists when you start it is do-able,) but I do not think that painting it will make it look better while still working.

If you want to paint it, you will have to remove the stickers, clear away the left behind glue and then paint in such a way that the plastic of the cube will not be affected.

Other than the regular Rubik's cube, you can not easily find how to take the cube apart. So you will have to do your painting with the cube still assembled.

I would advice you to just play with it as it is, and buy something just decorative in your chosen colours for paperweight.Painting Plastic to a Metallic - Glossy Finish?
Paint it first with undercioat of gesso. That will make the paints stick. There are many metallic acrylic paints available. Glossy ones also. The gesso will stick to most surfaces since it has some kind of glue in the paint. I find metallics look better over a undercoat of black rather tha bn white for some reason. good luck.
Painting that cube would be a tricky task... but I have an alternative!!

I make MANY model aircraft with metallic finishes, and I use a product called ';Bare-Metal';... it is a very thin metal foil with an adhesive on the back side. It sticks GREAT, is ';buff-able'; to give a SMOOTH finish, and comes in CHROME, ALUMINUM, STEEL, COPPER, and GOLD...

Here is a link to the product: http://bare-metal.com/bare-metal-foil.ht鈥?/a>

IF you paint... YES, disassemble, mask, prime and paint.

  • How can I make metallic colors with arcylic painting?

Ok I am doing a picture, but I came into a bump in the road. I have been having difficulty coloring some aspects of the picture, those which NEED to be metallic colors -- like rusted metal, like aluminum, etc.

How can I do this? I know how to do this with water color, but I have never before tried or even strive to do it with acrylic paint. I need to know what colors, specifically I need. I know with water color it is Ultramarine blue, burnt sienna mixture - which is to say certain types of blue and browns -- sedimentary colors of this kind. Would it be best for me to just go out and buy specific sedimentary colors besides trying to mix them and create them myself? And which would you prefer for lets say, aluminum, rusted metal, steel, etc?

I am having trouble. Any help would be appreciated. How can I make metallic colors with arcylic painting?
Glazing ! A glaze is a transparent layer of paint applied over another color so that it tints and modifies the underlayer . Any number of glazes can be superimposed as long as each is allowed to dry before painting the next . Glazing was originally an oil painting technique , but it is ideal for fast drying acrylics , and the effects are quite unlike those achieved with opaque mixtures .

Many shops sell transparent paints but I just reduce opaques with tap water . Although nothing beats experimenting on your palette , here are some examples that I have used :

Rusted metal : Cadmium yellow glazed over deep violet mixed with cadmium yellow .

Copper : Cadmium yellow glazed over deep violet .

Bronze : Light emerald green glazed over medium magenta .

I think you get the Idea . Gold , silver , metal/steel tones can be achieved with these base colors :

    Gold : Raw umber

    Silver/steel : Payne's grey

Here are some other colors I use for metallic glazes :

    Napthol crimson

    Phthalo green

    Phthalo blue

    Dioxazine purple

    Cadmium orange

    Cadmium yellow deep

    Cobalt blue

    Cadmium red medium

    Permanent sap green

........and finally unbleached titanium is a MUST!!!!!!

Just play around for a while you'll get the hang of it .

Good luck , my friend .How can I make metallic colors with arcylic painting?
I would experiment with everything until I found what felt right. You might be messing around on the pallet and discover something that's works that you didn't see before.

I think the best way to get any metallic effect is proper placement and proportion of light and dark. A mixture places next to a lighter color can look quite different next to a dark.

Experiment, and I would try to keep it as thin as possible.
there are metallic paints. gold, silver, steel, rust, etc... they are sometimes called iridescent. Color ir relative. A blue shirt is white under bright light and green under other light. As far as I know, any color can represent any other color - it's all dependant on the lighting and the relation to the other colors - look at the Haystack series -by Manet I think, or was it Monet%26gt;?

    PAINTING TILES

Tiles can be painted before or after installation. Be sure tiles are completely clean and dry. If painting after installation, install decorative strips prior to painting. Use and oil based pain such as an Alkyd enamel. Priming is not required when using an oil based paint. Water based paint may be used if the tiles are primed with a proper oil based primer beforehand. Spray paint also works well. Metallic colors such as silver, brass, gold and copper are available.

PPG and House of Kolor have some of the best finishes out there. The best way to select the right paint is to stop by a local body shop and ask to look at their paint sample books and tell them what you looking for. I'm sure you will find something that looks close to the old ShotGun. Or you might even find something you like better! --Good Luck!

depends on the accessories mounted like:

    black looks nice with nickles

black metallic or black pearle metallic need no nickle (only blacks)
    Shiny.
Metallic is referring to the metal flakes in the paint. If you look close at a car with metallic paint you can see the flakes in it. If there is no metallic flakes it can be as shiny and tend to look deeper'; than metallic paints. Hope I have been helpful.
a non-metallic black color is duller when compared to a metallic black.

Basically a metallic color lends a deeper and richer shine to the black color and it looks more elegant.

I have been thinking about painting my car lately, and one of my ideas was a silver-ish paint job, but that changes to black or a very very dark gray depending on the angle or light. Can i add metallic flakes to a clear when painting my car.and what should i sand the final coat with 400 grit?

i would like to find one complete kit paint, flakes clear. Can i add metallic flakes to a clear when painting my car.and what should i sand the final coat with 400 grit?
You can, but you have to make sure you have the right orifice size for the paint gun. Metal flake requires a larger than normal orifice to allow them to disperse evenly. If you don't, you'll wind up with tiger striping and modelling. Regular metallics are fine enough to pass through smoothly.

I suggest practicing on metal panels first before you paint your car.

Painting with any metallic is difficult. Usually the metallics are added to the basecoat and not the clear. But you could get some wild effects by adding them to the clear. It would add shimmer and depth to the paint you wouldn't see from a factory paint job.

But, eventually, your final 2 coats will have to be just clear. I wouldn't finish with a clear with flake in it.

400 grit is way too coarse for what you're doing as a final grit. When I wanted to have a glass finish, I would start with 400, go to 600 and then finish with 800.

If you want to really do a good job, wait 30 days, re-sand with 800, then 1000 and put on 2 more clear coats.

I wouldn't recommend going higher than 1000 grit because the paint will have trouble sticking.

If you want to go further, wait another 30 days, sand with 1200, 1500, then 2000 and then buff the car with a high speed buffer and compound. 3M makes excellent compounds and glazes for that.

(All sanding I mentioned is wet sanding)

If you do that, your car will be so shiny and the paint so deep that people will need to wear sunglasses to look at it.

When painting clear don't put on more coats than the manufacturers recommendation. Usually 2 or 3 depending on the mixture. If you want more clear coats, you have to wait for it to dry, resand and then put on another couple of coats. Can i add metallic flakes to a clear when painting my car.and what should i sand the final coat with 400 grit?
You'll want to sand it with finer grain paper than that for the last round of sanding; 400 grit will leave it looking all scratchy.
Check out alsa corp. They have some of the coolest paint effects I've ever seen, and most of their stuff is fairly priced. I would think that'd you'd probably have to use something a little finer than 400 grit, maybe like 1000 or so. Just go to http://www.alsacorp.com and look at some of their stuff. They sell kits and a lot of their stuff comes in spay cans now. They do have flakes, and I'm sure if you called or e-mailed them they'd work out a kit with you.

Another option is House of Kolor. They seem to be a bit more pricey, but the name is better known.
sure can 600 weight sand is smoother
Yes, that's the right way to do it. You can't find clear with flakes. Go to the parts store and buy the flakes. They have them in 2 different sizes. They have large flakes and small flakes. Make sure you measure the amount of flakes you add to your pot so that you use the same amount every time you refill to maintain consistancy. Good luck. Finish sand wet with 400, then 1200.
yep sure can ....the highest grit paper to final sand is best...also use agitator type gun to spray so will have even effect

Wetsand or buff? Metallic Effect Dupont Nason Single Stage Acrylic Enamel Paint?

Hi. I've got this paint... and there is slight orange peel. Honestly, it doesn't even really bother me that much... but I know after painting you're supposed to wetsand 1000 1500 then 2000 then buff.

Well... I couldn't find 2000 but I have a nice variable speed buffer and nice industrial Meguiar's polish so I figured 1500 then buff would be okay.

Originally when I wetsanded I did an inconspicuous area because I heard that you couldn't wetsand metallics... (It isn't flakes in a clear... it's just effects in a single stage though). The paint turned out foggy and gross... but found out that if I buffed that it was glassy.

However, I also tried only buffing and the only buffed part wasn't as smooth... but the wetsanded then buffed part had dark little spots. I ignored them but now I've done more of the car and see them coming up more and more... any idea what's going on or what I should do?

    -Stu

(ps. if you answer check back for me to edit so you can help more... :p )Wetsand or buff? Metallic Effect Dupont Nason Single Stage Acrylic Enamel Paint?
As a general rule, enamel is not color sanded. Lacquer is, but that is not readily available anymore (nitrocellulose is a long gone history).

If you look close at most any new production car you will notice orange peel to some degree. If you aren't bothered by the peel on yours, leave it alone!

It sounds like you have what may be fairly deep peel. That is what the dark spots sound like. When sanding, you are knocking of the highs, and the lows fill with residue. Then when you buff, the low spots turn out as the spots.

As the other guy said, go with a coarser grit, work up (I never go finer than 1500, no need really) and use a pad for support, and lots of water.

Clear coat is much easier to color sand to get a mirror finish, but metallic can be worked as well. It is easy to burn through, so be careful.Wetsand or buff? Metallic Effect Dupont Nason Single Stage Acrylic Enamel Paint?
hi stu, my name is also stu. here's what you might wanna try. when i was in working in a body shop, we used to wet sand using 450 to 500 grit paper. you might try using 600 grit, and use your palm while sanding never your fingertips. take your time, this is gonna take you a while. when your finished with one spot, use a squeegee to take the wetness off, of course you do this in an area that not very noticeable, like the bottom of a fender or the lower part of the rear quarter Panel. using a ';polishing'; compound, apply a thin film then buff it off and it should come up nice and shiny.

Which is better in car paints. Metallic or normal. ?

It's a matter of taste. I like metallic!

When painting with Metallic Acrylic, what kind of clear coat can I use so it does not loose its shine?

clear coat is what creates the shineWhen painting with Metallic Acrylic, what kind of clear coat can I use so it does not loose its shine?
    What you're doing sounds cool.

For awhile I painted with liquid tempera on canvas (I posted one of these in my 360) and was concerned because tempera is fragile. So I protected each canvas with several coats of clear coat acrylic.

The most popular brand is Krylon but many other probably work as well. When painting with Metallic Acrylic, what kind of clear coat can I use so it does not loose its shine?
If it's acrylic any gloss varnish will work. What I really like and what will give it a super thick and glossy appearance is Decoart Triple Thick Gloss Glaze. It gives an almost glass like appearance to paint, and it's water based so it will wash right out of your brush. I usually use two coats for the best effect, and it gives the paint real depth. It comes in both a liquid and a spray.

But any gloss varnish will work. Look in Michaels or other local craft store.
you can even go over it with an acrylic gloss medium. But why not experiment with marine varnish or resin? Explore (with proper ventilation).

I would go with a light silver/grey for the base with a purple/grey accent wall--probably on your smallest wall, that way you can give the room some depth and you aren't stuck will all one color and it keeps the room bright! And don't worry about being creative. A cranberry would probably look good as well. What I would do is get some sample sticks from the paint store of various colors that you like and compare them to the bed set to see how it will match.

i just realized that my turtles have metallic bubbles on their shells it only shows when they are under water and the heat lamp is on. does that mean that the heat lamp is too close and they are getting burned i don't know what to do I am afraid they will die i have searched all over online and nobody says anything about that. My Painted Turtles have Metallic bubbles on their shells. What is it?
sounds like air pockets under the scutes their shedding off. Perfectly normal! They're growing! My Painted Turtles have Metallic bubbles on their shells. What is it?
try looking up stuff about how they shed there shell.....they dont actually shed there entire shell but when they grow small pieces of there shell flake off. its normal you could actually peel it off your self. and its showing when its under water because there is air under that thin layer of shell that if ready to come off.......... let me know if this helps
It's probably air bubbles under the outer layer of shell scutes. Normal. Don't worry about it, if you're keeping your water clean.

Painting an old ceiling metallic black?

I am attempting to finish off my basement cheaply (try pub style). Right now there is old ugly tile on the ceiling that is ripped out in a few spots but in tact for the most part. A friend was telling me about a paint (that you can't buy at Home Depot) that I can spray on the ceiling tiles to make it all black and give it a metallic finish, in addtion to spraying it on the various ducts and pipes that would provide a bit of insulation. Does anyone know of this paint and where I might find it? Or, does anyone have a better idea (no drop ceilings please)? Thanks!Painting an old ceiling metallic black?
I have drop ceiling as well.

and its starting to look quiet old.

I have been surfing the net for technics on how too do this.

Do not use solvent-type thinner or cleanersPainting an old ceiling metallic black?
We do celings often in anaglypta (textured wallpaper) and paint with metallic paints (www.modernmasters.com). The ceilings look like metal. It is BEAUTIFUL. you can do it over textured ceiling tiles as well.

Yeah, we kinda need the make and model of the car to give a good answer. I can't believe you didn't include that in your question. Go sit in the corner until you learn your lesson!
I have no idea, but if you can determine what make and model of car that came with this paint job, an automotive paint dealer can look it up.

A very Metallic Silver car paint...what kind of paint?

I have been thinking about painting my car lately, and one of my ideas was a silver-ish paint job, but that changes to black or a very very dark gray depending on the angle or light. I assumed this was a METALLIC paint job, but I plugged it into yahoo and it showed pictures of cars that did not look like what I was looking for. I started searching up other kinds of car paint and came across CHAMELEON paint. I figured maybe its chameleon paint with silver/black colors. Any ideas on what kind of paint it is?A very Metallic Silver car paint...what kind of paint?
well of course a photo is not going to be able to show the metallic flakes change due to the difference in the angle it is observed. but to answer your question sherwin williams automotive. call any local store and they can give you the number to their closet automotive location

Is it hard to spray a metallic base coat? what is the difference of spraying than a regular paint?

nope, not hard at all. Just put on 3 or 4 coates , normal manor, then on the last coat pull the guan away from the surface further, this will give a drop coat, or allowing the matalic to not be blotchy. A metallic coat will need a few coats of lacquer on top.

  • Can you get HIGH OFF SPRAY PAINT...lmaooo metallic gold?

    Hey,

I just finished my sisters project. Haven't slept and think im now high, I went outside to spray the pyramid (asked lots of question about that stupid things) but it was snowing and soo windy :P

I blocked my nose with my hand, but damm I feel like I can taste it... and cuz its snowing I had to bring it inside.. i put it in the basement but I feel as if I can taste it haha

I'm just dizzy right now, but I told my sisters to ask my older brother to drive her to school, cuz im tired (being up all nite) and plus I think I might have a slight high.

LoL Can people get high of spray paint? How do you know?

ps- can i get sick from this, obv it's not good for my health, but anything to serious??? Next time i'll def use a mask.. at the least a scarf :P

Thanks. Can you get HIGH OFF SPRAY PAINT...lmaooo metallic gold?
Ugh you are going to get a headache from it once your buzz wears off :/ lol. I got high off of the spray fixative in art class many times (NOT on purpose!) lol

But really, nothings going to happen to you. People die or pass out when they are ';huffing'; it, and it happens during the act, not way after. Can you get HIGH OFF SPRAY PAINT...lmaooo metallic gold?
You can get high from spray paint.

In future definitely use a mask.

If this is the only time you have done this then there is not much chance of anything serious happening to you health-wise.

    Just be careful next time.
Short answer: Yes. A number of people die every year from inhaling the chemicals from spray paint. That's what masks and open windows are for. And you were up all night doing your sister's project? Not worth dying for.
no just light headed if ou want to get high chug a bottle of robotussin

Rusting is oxidation of iron and requires water and oxygen to proceed.

How do I paint a metallic finish on Paintable Textured Wallpaper?

I am buying a house and I want to do over the living room. I wanted to do the ceiling and 1 wall with a beautiful embossed (classic tin ceiling design) wallpaper, and I wanted it to be gray/silver. I was thinking painting it completely gray, then metallic on the raised areas. Can anyone tell me the best way to do this, and the type of paints I will need to buy. I think it will look fantastic.... and the other walls in the living room will be in a blue color...... Thanks...if there are any websites that show photos on how to do that, id appreciate a link. thanks. How do I paint a metallic finish on Paintable Textured Wallpaper?
I have anaglyptic embossed wallpaper that I painted with a metallic faux finish to look like patina on copper. You have to prime the paper first with something like Zinsser and let that cure completely. You can use latex or acrylic paint over that, but most metallic colors only come in acrylic formulations and you can find some in larger containers. I used a basecoat over the entire paper first then came back over the high spots with my patina green on a very dry brush. I had a damp rag handy to wipe off immediately paint that went where I didn't want it to be. Another hint, take a scrap piece of the wallpaper and experiment on it before you hit the wall to get your technique and color blends the way you desire. How do I paint a metallic finish on Paintable Textured Wallpaper?
I completely get it about the textured wallpaper. Wherever you buy it, they may have ideas and suggestions other than mine, but this is what I think.

Put up the wallpaper. That will take you about a month, and let it sit for a bit. Then do a grey-blue paint with a really fluffy roller in order to get in all the cracks and crevices.

What I would then do is get a metallic silver in a spray paint (I don't think it is sold any other way). Spray it on a rag and rub/buff over the raised surfaces of the wallpaper.
    Got a Home Depot nearby?

Home Depot sells Ralph Lauren's ';Regent Metallics'; line, a beautiful range of colors with a metallic finish. There's also a display showing how to use their colors

If you want the metallic paint only on the raised areas, you would need to dry-brush very sparingly just on those areas, over a dry coat of your background color. The background could be flat, eggshell, or satin ... the metallic won't adhere well to semi-gloss or gloss.

Here's the link to the Regent Metallics page from Ralph Lauren Home ... there are techniques and how-to videos, and you can see all the colors:

    a hui hou,

    Gold metallic wall paint, help?!?!?

ok so im getting a new room and want it like a royal design and want to paint it metallic gold, with kind of paint stroke texture.

    so two questions for that.

    1. how would i achieve this texture? (does messily painting it work, like random strokes?)

    2. Where could i purchase metallic gold paint?

Ok i want to try this other idea, royal blue, with gold metallic accent.

could i just paint it with blue and glaze over it with gold shimmer or gold metallic paint? or how would i achieve this? tips?

THANKS IN ADVANCE %26lt;3Gold metallic wall paint, help?!?!?
    1) you might consider doing your royal things on huge pieces on wall board, sheets or hangings and then it will be less burden some to paint over.

    2) For a paint stroke texture you can just add joint compound to paint and trowel it on. ';venetian plaster';. You don't have to go through all those steps in the videos. I did my wall with the deer head and it looks awesome.

    3) You might try some sculpture paint tools to raise stars ( crests, or whatever) and then paint these smaller areas or border gold with spray paint. like just a little metallic. Not a whole room. Gold wall may look garish.

    4) You might consider some wallies. or just doing one accent wall. They have whole wall wallies for $150.

I personally like the royal blue with metallic accent.

I did another room with one wall, blue with cloud stencils. The wall is across from the bead. dreamy.

BTW -decorating is not my thing.

For really royal try doing some stained glass....maybe you can get a plain glass piece to go over the window. then paint it.Gold metallic wall paint, help?!?!?
    Hope it turns out well...

How much would a paint job of metallic blue cost?

It depends on where you go to paint it. Places like Macco and Economy Paint will paint an entire vehicle for around $250 to start. Collision body shops do not like all over paint jobs so they tend to be expensive there. You should look for a small independent paint shop that specializes in all over paint jobs. I believe if you are repainting the same color you should be able to get it done for around $500, If you change the color it will be more especially if you paint the jams and under the hood and trunk. Well thats a great color, first there is the fast way that most companies will charge. They just scuff the current paint and paint over it.

Your paint job is created by using a black and adding metallic chips to it during the stirring process.

If you want a good job companies will charge $2500.

Or you can go to sears buy an orbital sander, sand it with 240 grit, once you get the old paint off, use a 350+ make it as smooth as possible, try not to remove the primer. Take it into a paint shop, and you'll be looking around $440 per gallon.

Your car will use 2.1/4 gallons for a good double coat. They could do it for 940.00 or around there.

Then make sure you get it wet sanded!!!! This makes it absolutley AWESOME %26lt;- write that down, WET SANDED

Make sure you get a paint, then clear coat finish

Don't get no paint and clear coat mix!

Its always better if you take your car apart yourself and make sure that nobody paints over your windows and mirrors. But a good shop will accomplish a good tape job. But tape is just tape, the more you remove before it goes in, the better it will really look.

You guys are not reading the whole question, it is not the original paint color, so the color code in the door jam is no good.
The paint code should be included on the build plate and possibly included in the VIN for the vehicle. Often there was also a sticker on the door jamb that spec'd the color code.

There's this old car how much would it cost to sand out all the rust and give it a metallic blue paint job?

Unfortunately, sanding out all of the rust on an old car generally leaves places that no longer have any metal left to refinish - and new metal must be welded into place or the panel replaced along with the necessary body work.

Your best bet is to have a couple local body shops give it a good look and you'll get a much better idea as to the cost.

I've used gravity guns for years with every kind of finish. The particles in metallic are very light.some even float on the top.As for your gun system,I couldn't say, never used one,try a panel and see.But I will say this, spraying a car is a tough job, and,no offence, but You don't read as a pro.A crap spray job will kill a car, unsaleable. And metallic finish has to be the easiest to get wrong,Not to mention that I have a specific spray cap only for metallic.Ones possibly available for your system. You wont get the right flow or float without it.But,like I said, try it on an old door.I still test spray an old panel before touching the car.Did see a guy spray his volvo with a sort of attachment for a hoover once, and damn,it wasn't a half bad job.good luck. Can I use a gravity fed HVLP turbine spraygun to spray metallic paint? will the particles settle at the bottom?
This answer does not actually answer the question!

    Metallic gold paint...?

has anyone ever painted their wall a metallic gold? how did it turn out?what brand/method did u use?

please let me know.Metallic gold paint...?
If you want a metallic look, I would try one of these from the link below. I've seen them, and they look really nice:

    http://www.ralphlaurenhome.com/rlhome/pr鈥?/a>Metallic gold paint...?
Our basement was painted a metallic silver about 25 years ago and I imagine painting it metallic gold would probably have the same effect....

The room was painted metallic to give it some more light, and while it certainly does that, it also has the unfortunate effect of looking too sterile and too ';industrial'; or techno. It's really hard to pull off decorating with it and we ended up using black %26amp; chrome furniture and pulling in some color with green %26amp; terra cotta accents. I don't like I myself, but our kids do :)

If you are wanting to paint the walls metallic gold ~ you might think about renting that movie ';Road to Tarabithia.'; There's a segment in which the girl's family paints the walls of their dining room metallic gold and the effect is just stunning. It might give you some inspiration :)
metallic gold paint?!? I've seen it before and it always looks cheesy don't do it trust me

Where can i get some really great gold metallic paint?

i just got a really great bed set at tjmax. it's a beautiful striped set and the major colors are mint green, sky blue, and ivory, with accents of gold, rust, and dark turqouise. it's really wonderful looking and i'm so excited! my room has a white molding on the wall that is about halfway up, so half my room will be mint green (bottom) and sky blue (top). i wanted to get some shiny metallic gold paint that i can use on my cheap furniture (from k-mart) and some old picture frames that i found at an antique store. does anyone know of any really GROOVY gold metallic paint that would work on wood and plastic?Where can i get some really great gold metallic paint?
yeah prolly not home depot nor any other regular home supply type store, at least not paint worth using, i wold suggest goin to sherwin williams or even better if you have a benjamin moore dealer locally they make the absolute best paints, but for your furniture that type of color will be rather difficult cause with funiture you usually want to use a high quality oil based enamel so it does not peel, i just implore you what ever paint you use, make sure to prep it correctly if you wath the paint to last more than a year. this means sand off and or degloss ';with deglosser also available at most paint stores'; any sort of shiny finish as almost no paints, with the exception of xim primer'; all you need need to do is wipe with deglosser then use a medium sand p[aper like about 80 or 100 grit to give the paint a ';tooth' to stick to then fine sand like 180 grit between coats.Where can i get some really great gold metallic paint?
I got a great gold in the oops paint section, I was lucky. The paint was a quart of Ralph Lauren and I have used it for a few years now, it really goes a long way. Good luck!
    use this stuff

    its awesome

    i used the chrome

and it came out really shiney and looked just like chrome,

  • Airbrush tips / techniques? Want to airbrush with metallic paint, but thinned out...?

Hi. I don't airbrush, I'll just tell you that right now, so I have no idea how I would do this. Please don't assume I know anything about the art of airbrushing, I've never painted before and have never even owned an airbrush. Please be specific in your answer if possible. With that out of the way, here is what I'm hoping to accomplish...

I'd like to paint a one way mirror essentially. I found places that sell metallic silver paint, but that would be too heavy of a silver coating. Is there a way to thin out the paint by about half so it would provide a thinner layer of the silver? Would it be possible for me to alter a water/ammonia solution with silver nitrate (this is a dissolving solution) into a lacquer and spray with an airbrush?

Thanks in advance.Airbrush tips / techniques? Want to airbrush with metallic paint, but thinned out...?
I might be a little confused about what you are asking but i'll try to give you a good answer, Is the silver metallic paint you found actual airbrush paint? If it's not I would recommend airbrush paint I use Createx, Createx makes Auto Air colors that are waterbased non toxic. I have used them before to airbrush a drumset and they held up very well, they are also very thin coatings and if they aren't thin enough they make a reducer you can add to it, I buy from here https://shop.houseofkolor.com/hok/store/鈥?/a>

Hi everyone. I have a guitar I resurfaced and applied bondo to and I used the dupli-color paint shop metallic system and unfortunately there are some light indentations where I should of sanded more of the bondo so I was wondering if you can add bondo on top of a metallic coat and re-sand and spray some more color? What about spraying the silver paint with a glitter after you paint it, but while it is still wet. Then it will dry into the paint.

You could even do purple walls with silver polka dots or the other way around.

    Repairing scrapes/scratches on metallic paint?

I own a metallic green Ford Fiesta (mk 6). Feeling a little overconfident recently I drove the car into the driveway a little too tightly and quickly and scraped the passenger side wheel arch against the white concrete gatepost. I've already removed the white paint that scuffed onto the car with methylated spirits however I'm left with scratches (one square shaped and several lines) that seem to have gone below the green paintwork to the white bumpy textured stuff underneath. Any ideas on a home solution to this? I'm more worried about keeping out the rust rather than having a seamless new-looking paintjob. Thanks in advance.Repairing scrapes/scratches on metallic paint?
before rust starts cover local area except for damaged area with newspaper stuck down with masking tape. treat any rust with rust preventative (looks like milk and dries dark) spray the damage with metal primer. mix a little filler and hardner, spread this in to fill depth of scratches. leave 4 hours. rub down with fine wet%26amp;dry emery paper use water and finest wet and dry for smooth finish.dry off, wait 4 hours, get exact metalised colour from auto paint shop in fine spray form. make sure finishish is smooth and dry, spray area lightly from about 10 - 12 inches from surface, (dont continue to spray to make it thicker) lightly sparay again with 1/2 hour break between coats (about 4 coats). you may have to apply final laquer/shine finish. finally remove paper and tape. lightly rub over area with cutting cream, polish with wax polish later. the exact colour will probably be on the VIN plate under the bonnet, as a code No so let the auto paint Co see that to mix the correct colour. follow instructions on the canRepairing scrapes/scratches on metallic paint?
you can get touch up kits online the key would be to prepare properly it will be hard to match the existing finish but will prevent rust.

you can also get kits from halfords but they are more pricey

How do you protect metallic paint without ruining the effect?

I used metallic acrylic paints-the kind for painting miniatures (citadel, games workshop, etc.) to paint a guitar effects pedal.

I want to protect the paint job as it is very thin coats applied with a dry brush technique, but standard spray acrylic clear (Krylon crystal clear) makes the metal effects look like glitter and kills the effect. What can I use to protect the paint without ruining the metal look? How do you protect metallic paint without ruining the effect?
You could try using a ( matt finish ) clear coat. It might work. It protects and and yet keeps the sheen down to a dull finish.

How about a light metallic silver, or light silver, it could keep the room lightened up and still extend the gray and purple in the bed set. Hope this helps! What paint colors look good with a metallic purplish, grayish, bed set?
I would go with a light silver/grey for the base with a purple/grey accent wall--probably on your smallest wall, that way you can give the room some depth and you aren't stuck will all one color and it keeps the room bright! And don't worry about being creative. A cranberry would probably look good as well. What I would do is get some sample sticks from the paint store of various colors that you like and compare them to the bed set to see how it will match.

What is the difference between a metallic paint finish and a ';pearl'; paint finish?

Of lately, a slew of automakers have been offering an interesting array of colors of the spectrum. There will always be the customary solid colors and the premium optional metallic colors. What baffles me is the new line of finishes categorized as ';pearls'; and ';mica's';.

I looked at some Audi A6 cars the other day at the local Audi dealership and was mesmerized by the glossy premium finishes which to me all seemed like metallic finishes. A salesman soon informed me however, that some of the finishes were ';pearl finishes and he showed me an A6 brochure to prove it.

That only left me more addled for I could not distinguish the metallics from the pearls or mica's.

Can someone enlighten me as to how to differentiate them? What is the difference between a metallic paint finish and a ';pearl'; paint finish?
Metallic paint, sometimes also called ';metal-flake'; has actual pieces of metal in it, which are highly reflective. The individual pieces tend to lay in the paint in a horizontal manner, as they are themselves fairly flat, and you can discern the individual pieces if you look closely. They are mixed in with regular paint.

Pearlescent paints get their name from the pigments (the part that gives the paint it's color) they contain which are very round in shape, which gives the paint an iridescent quality, which is to say it looks like a different color depending on the angle. This is different than translucent (candy) paints, which let a base coat show through the top-coat.

http://www.google.com/search?q=Kosmoski%26amp;鈥?/a>What is the difference between a metallic paint finish and a ';pearl'; paint finish?
pearl is 3 parts: base color, then pearl coat (sparkly stuff), then gloss coat.

metallic paint is 2 parts: color with metallic speckles in it, then gloss coat.

pearl paint job costs more, obviously. If you can't tell the difference, then lucky you for your delayed artistic skills.

You are satisfied in cheaper designs.

You will be content living in a cheap house, drive a cheap car, buy cheap jewelries. Perfectly happy.

  • About using metallic paint...?

I want to paint my bedroom walls gray with a metallic silver sheen. I found some beautiful silver paint and have been experimenting using a gray base coat and mixing the silver paint with glaze for a top coat. I LOVE the results. My problem is, whenever I went to a paint store and asked about using metallic paint to do a faux paint treatment, the sales person invariably said ';It can't be done.'; WHY? They didn't have any reason, just said metallic paint can't be used for faux painting.

Is there something I should know? Will the metallic paint peel off the wall in 2 weeks or what?

I'm cleaning and sanding the walls, using Glidden Gripper primer, the glaze, gray and silver paints are from Behr.About using metallic paint...?
Don't listen to the idiots that work there! I did what you want to the walls in my kitchen using a blue base coat and metallic silver and glaze on top. Use the gray base coat and go for it!About using metallic paint...?
We are thinking of doing a ceiling with the metallic finish. The directions say to add a quart of metallic to the colored paint, we are using blue paint and gold metallic.

    first answer is correct.
Someone should run u over with that boxster. Sounds like u are in the boston area, and i know that there is a porsche dealer there. I can't believe that you would not have known that some paint and body repair express shop would get the paint code wrong. I wouldn't take a lawnmower to one of those places
Call the Porsche dealer and ask who they use. Next any shop shooting a Porsche should be using PPG paint, nothing else is going to match. Should be DBC or DBU brand of PPG.

Also contact your local Porsche club, they can help you greatly in who does what to the cars.
Metallic paint is the hardest to match in the aftermarket and varies slightly regardless of the shop or manufacturer. Typically when repainting a metallic car, the shop will have to paint a larger area to blend in the color. Keep in mind that your car is also 4+ years old and is likely victim to minor discoloration from the sun.

That said, you can find a good shop that can get it close, but it is unlikely that it will ever be like new again. Have them paint from one complete panel to another or blend around the engine cover and side fenders. They can get it close enough.
ask the porsche dealer who they use.
    PPG paint is CRAP!!

You will screw up your car. Cars are not painted with rattlecan spraypaint. You will cause more damage to the vehicle and have a higher repair bill to have the shop fix your mess then had you just taken it to them to begin with. DO NOT ATTEMPT ANY PAINT WORK YOURSELF. Just get some estimates from bodyshops in your area.
go to auto zone and get the correct color and no your idea wont work well .auto zone has a lot of info for do it youselfers.

kindly help. Can i use spray paint of black color to touch up my car which is of midnight black metallic color.?
There will be a difference. Unless you get an identical black in the identical paint adjusted for fading and then manage to blend it in. Matte will be a totally different effect. Black is just the name of a color--not all that the eye can distinquish. But some auto paint stores will custom mix some paint for your car in an aerosol can--for a price! I think I paid around $25. Metallic will make all your problems more difficult. In general it is impossible to paint a spot and get it invisible. What is done is to paint an entire section up to an edge. But you can create a 1/2'; raised edge of masking tape--a doubled back wall--which will deflect paint and create a smooth transition into the old paint instead of a raised edge. Get a price on a professional touchup just to see how much it is. It might be worth it.Can i use spray paint of black color to touch up my car which is of midnight black metallic color.?
If you really want your car to look like new, I'd suggest getting it professionlly done. Even if you get the exact matching color of factory ';metallic'; paint for your car, it probably will not look too good during the day if you paint it yourself. At night, it doesn't matter...who can tell...black is black. If you only need to paint a section of your car and not an entire panel, a professional auto paint shops blends the new paint into the old paint so you can barely tell the difference where the car was painted a 2nd time. But they do this in a dust-free room...not in a driveway or a garage. The room has to be dust free because when you paint, dust will settle on the paint and leave unsightly marks. Also, you have to have a steady hand when weilding a spray can...if you overspray too much it will start to drip and then you'll really be able to tell it was an ';at home'; job. Don't forget you have to apply a layer of clearcoat after the paint is dried too (which can take hours).

Sorry...I don't know where Rohini is either so I can't help you with a professional recommendation.
Many of the places that supply paint to the body shop will also sell you the same paint. So you should be able to get the exact color match. Some of the paint suppliers can actually get an aerosol can of the exact paint filled for you. Sorry, I do not know Rohini.
If you go to a autobody parts and paint store you can have them match the color of the car and put it in to a spray can. That way there will be no difference. you main difference in the color will be in the clear finish. The spray can of black will not have a gloss finish and may not be an exact match. depending on where you will be painting will depend on how noticable it will be.
take your car [first] to the paint place and they can match up your car's paint and put it in a spray can.........they place a computer on your car to make the paint..........color match is where i took mine..........mich......................鈥?br>

    good luck
OK, first of all I own a 26 year old black Mustang Cobra. I have sprayed it myself before, and for the most part, black is black. However, it is almost impossible to match any color after it has been out in the weather for a few years, because the paint oxidizes and the color becomes lighter than original.

The difference between matt black and black is matt black has a flattener in it that takes the gloss off of it. You can make regular black paint into Matt or flat black by buying a flattener that mixes with the paint.

Also, black is really hard to spray, because you can't really judge the depth of the spray like you can on other colors. If it runs, you can wait until it dries and sand it smooth using a 600 or 1000 grit sand paper and smooth it all out, if you use a catalyzed enamel or laquer. Not many people use laquer any more, so, catalyzed enamel is the best way to go. After you sand it, then you use some polishing compound and shine it back up.

If you have never sprayed a car before, you will have to spend a lot of time and be ready do things over several times to get it right. Your mix has to be right, and your spray has to be right, and everything has to be clean, or you get dust and dirt in it without a paint booth.

It is no small task to spray paint a car, and get it to come out very impressive. Don't count on getting it just right the first time, and be ready to keep trying till you get it right.
    There will be a difference.

If you got a good quality, professional paint job your car would be protected from rust, and it will be able to give off that shiny look cars have.

    go to http://www.normanchigier.com/Depositiono鈥?/a>

to read about the paint process that is involved in coating a car. Then you will know the difference.

    what is rohini?
using black or black matt would show up like bogs balls on a black metallic paint job.

black spray paint has gloss finish/ matt is a dull lack lustre finish.

any automotive paint supplier can match your colour, but applying metallic paint is a specialist job you may find you stuff it up trying to do it yourself.
just get the paint number off drivers door or in trunk where specs are and any car paint shop can match it up in a spray bomb

  • How Much Would It Cost To Paint A 1995 Barina Metallic Pink??

In Australia that is.. Not that anywhere else has Barinas heheHow Much Would It Cost To Paint A 1995 Barina Metallic Pink??
there are many answers to this question. A crappy paint job can run you $500. Though to tell you the truth it wouldn't be worth it, they will not strip it, prime it or clear coat it, just spray on a coat of your color. A perfect, factory level paint job will go for $2500 - $3000 and will make your car look beautifull. But to tell you the truth, for that money, you should just buy a different car with a nice paint job already in place. The real question is; Is it worth it? Will your car last long enough for you to enjoy the perfect paint job? Or doesn it only have a year or so left on its life, which is not at all worth it. I'll put it to you this way, if it has more than 70 thousand miles on it, don't do it.

use a car shampoo, made for the job.Hand washing a metallic paint car....?
It needs to be waxed like any other paint.

Do not use dish washing soap to wash. It will strip the wax and is hard on the paint. I personally use Turtle Wax Wash and Wax car wash soap. It cleans well and is made to wash cars. It is inexpensive and cheaper to use than dish washing soap. There are several good brands of car wash soap on the market.

For wax, I prefer the liquid type. The paste wax is actually a little bit better, but takes a lot more work to apply. With paste wax you are also much more limited to the type weather conditions when they can be applied.

I personally use the Turtle Wax Ice products. Mostly because they are quick and easy to apply and I tend to wax more often with these. The results look good. But any of the other name brand products work just as well.
get onto ebay, get some auto smart products, esp. the carnuba gold wax one pot will last you a long time and the results are great
Use a wash n' wax,as it leaves a film on the car rather than car shampoo. Wipe down with a microfibre cloth, available from poundshops. Under no circumstances use washing up liquid - it's a degreaser.

To finish try using Demon Shine, 拢5 for a litre from Asda. It protects the paint and waxes the entire car in 10 minutes. Apply with a dry cloth on a dry vehicle.

Do this once a fortnight in summer and once a week in salty winter conditions.

The underside of the car is self cleaning.
    All automotive finishes require wax.

Wash with a mild solution designed for automotive finishes. Mothers, Meguiars, 3m and others.

Don't use dish washing liquid. It is too harsh and will remove wax.

How much for an metallic or candy orange top-quality paint job for a 2004 dodge viper?

Not more than 5k i hope.....How much for an metallic or candy orange top-quality paint job for a 2004 dodge viper?
You could spend up to, or beyond 5k. Ask around, do a little shopping and ask for customer referrals. Ask if you can see the vehicles that have been done. One shop might soak you for $5k, and it peal in a year, another might do it for $2k, and it lasts forever. It all depends on the quality of the paint, the expertise of the workers doing the job, and how well the car was prepped and painted. A clean shop, relatively speaking, where care is taken to keep oils and other contaminants away from the car being painted are all very important things to look for.How much for an metallic or candy orange top-quality paint job for a 2004 dodge viper?
It depends on what you want done to the body(rust, dents, scratches etc.) before painting. I had my Camaro redone(body included) and paint $7500 ,you may get buy cheaper if no body work done etc.

How does one remove the metallic Chevy emblem off of a van to prime/paint?

Does it just pry off? How so it won't bend? How do you replace it?How does one remove the metallic Chevy emblem off of a van to prime/paint?
i don't know sepcifically, but most of the time, they have two things sticking off of them that have a circular washer looking thing on the back that locks in sort of like a rivet, but... not really.. you have to remove those.. you can probably pry it off, but you'll lose whatever it's connected to..

other times they have pinch type studs in them which go into a hole and spread out. if that's the type this is, then you will need to depress it so it will come out. you're likely to break the tabs off and need to replace it.

i'm glad to see you're doing things the RIGHT way, but, there's always the ghetto way..... tape it up, sand really well around the emblem, then prime it....

  • Pearl effect or metallic paint?

What paint is better and why? (bodywork on an audi)Pearl effect or metallic paint?
none are better...but pearl looks nicer, but to much pearl can spoil it..if your painting you could always go 1 further and use flip paint.it xchanges colour like pearl but ''more'' if you know what i mean...you could even go 1 better...there are some heat/thermo paints that changes colour at different temps....Pearl effect or metallic paint?
they can both look good, but i think pearls look better because they flip when the light hits it and change colour, its possible to achieve really cool affects with pearl colours.Alot of modern metallic colours have a few drops of pearl in the mixing formula to brighten them up but they don't flip as much as a proper pearl colour.
    Hi,

Pearl in my opinion as it changes colour under different light and looks really cool!
